My mum taught me to knit when I was 5 years old, when I had chicken pox, can you say that it changed my life at the age of 5? Well if you can, it did. I have knitted nearly everyday since. I am an engineer by day but find time to knit and design hand knit kits for all competencies of knitter.
The Wool Sanctuary is the name of my knitting business that I run from home in Weston Super Mare in my spare time.
I design small items to knit, for all levels of knitter and I am very passionate about colour.
Whilst at university I worked for Rowan wherever I was living in the country I would fill in as a design consultant or teach workshops. I also spent a year working in the Design Room at the Rowan Mill in Holmfirth; working closely with some of my favourite designers Kim Hargreaves, Louisa Harding and on garments by Kaffe Fassett, Sasha Kagan, Erica Knight and Brandon Mably etc.
A few years ago I was featured on Kirstie's Homemade Home with Kirstie Allsopp. I taught her to knit and also designed the titles for the show.
In July 2012 I published my first book 'Janet Smith Can't Knit'.
