Me

My name is Suzie Johnson and I am in love, with knitting that is. I discovered my love when I was five years old and have been faithful to it ever since.  I have knitted everyday since I was five, and I mean everyday. I knit at work, in the car on the way to work, when I get home, on the beach, everywhere really.

In 2008 I fulfilled one of my dream and this is it: The Wool Sanctuary – my very own wool shop.  I am living in a Wool Sanctuary; I have turned my home into a knitters heaven and I am now living amongst the yarn.  My aim is to provide a sanctuary where  knitters, like me, can knit. 

I am a knitwear designer, designing small kits to encourage people to get into knitting or to give those who can already knit small projects. I stock Rowan and Debbie Bliss yarn too, I will eventually stock more beautiful yarns too but one step at a time. As well as stocking yarn and knitting kits, I run workshops, run knit school and have private tuition at the Wool Sanctuary. I also run a successful Knit club that boasts 93 members to date.

I worked for Rowan for over six years before I started my business. Wherever I have moved with my job Rowan has employed me as either a Design Consultant or a Mobile Design Consultant teaching relaxed workshops in all knitting techniques. I have also spent a year working in the Design Room at the Rowan Mill in Holmfirth; working closely with Kim Hargreaves and Louisa Harding and on garments by Kaffe Fassett, Sasha Kagan, Erica Knight and Brandon Mably to name but a few.  

My Knit Club is made up of a really friendly group of knitters and I would love for you to join in our fun so please feel free to come along, you would be made very welcome.  As well as the Knit Club I provide a knitting helpline, where my knitters can call me at any time for friendly advice and help whenever it is needed; if I can’t help I will hopefully know someone who can.

The Wool Sanctuary is open to visitors for purchasing yarn, workshops (by appointment only – please see below) however if you cannot visit me I can offer a mail order service to you. You can either e-mail or phone your order in to me.
